Spinal Decompression Q & A

How does spinal decompression work?

Spinal decompression is a highly-effective, non-surgical solution for many types of pain and discomfort. Spinal decompression is especially effective in treating pain caused by disc herniation (or bulging disc), degenerative discs, and posterior facet syndromes. Spinal decompression works by gently taking pressure off of the spinal discs, creating a negative force (suction into the disc) that pulls water, oxygen, and other nutrients back into the disc. By reversing the forces of gravity, spinal decompression reverses the damage to the discs by providing the nutrients required for healing and long-term pain relief.

What types of pain and problems are treated with spinal decompression?

A wide-range of neck and back issues are effectively corrected with the assistance of spinal decompression, often in conjunction with other corrective treatments. Spinal decompression has been successfully used to remedy many types of back and neck conditions for years. Among the most common are:

  • Herniated and bulging discs
  • Sciatica
  • Numbness or tingling of the arms and hands, or legs and feet
  • Facet syndrome
  • Shooting pain through the arms and hands, or legs and feet
  • Neck pain
  • Disc degeneration
  • Low back pain

What should I expect during a decompression treatment?

Spinal decompression is a very safe, conservative, and gentle therapy – creating a truly pleasant patient experience. During treatment you will lie comfortably on the decompression table, while experiencing a gentle pull, which takes pressure of the problem area. Treatment sessions last no more than several minutes and most patients find this therapy very relaxing, often causing them to drift to sleep.
